indexing services providing ways into the text

About Me

I am an Advanced Professional Member of the Society of Indexers with many years experience in book indexing, journal article and database indexing, as well as a former career in libraries and information centres as a Chartered Librarian.

I began database indexing in 2002, writing abstracts and indexing terms for subsequent online output. Having successfully completed the Society of Indexers course, I began back of the book indexing in 2009 and have continued with it ever since alongside my library career.

I spent the first six years of my working life employed as a tax officer with the Inland Revenue, now HMRC. On gaining a degree in library studies and history, I worked as a librarian for a central government department (HM Treasury and Cabinet Office),  and then an  investment company (Fidelity International). For twelve years I was an Information Manager and then Associate Director for a commercial property agency (Chesterton). I then worked for another twelve years as a Subject Librarian at De Montfort University, with subject specialisms in Architecture, Interior Design and Fashion.

I have therefore gained a wide range of experience and subject knowledge through working in these different fields. This includes economics, taxation, financial services, government, statistics, property, architecture, history, local and family history, art, design and fashion.

Organisations I have worked for as an indexer include: BDP (Business Database Production), ProQuest, Pearson, Wiley-Blackwell, Taylor & Francis, HMRC, Oxford University Press, Harriman House and Routledge

My personal interests include family activities, hill-walking, local and family history, yoga and pilates.
